  • Deepdale rework

I was looking through some old photos last night and decided to have another go at this shot. Processed in Lightroom and final adjustments and frame done in PS. The photo was shot in July '04 with a Canon 10D and a 17-40 f4L at 1/2 sec F22 40mm If I'm honest the colours look somewhat muted here from how they appeared in both LR & PS though the colour space is sRGB.

    Any comments are welcome

    Re: Deepdale rework

As a matter of interest I've just checked out the original image thats on my web gallery Seems I called it Dentdale which is a mistake, though the valley does run into Dentdale. The colours on that version seem even worse so there is some improvement with this rework. I just wish that Windows web browsers had better colour management built in

Yes Stephen, it is definitely an improvement on the original, having more punch and saturation.

It is a charming photograph and the composition is spot on. However, this type of photograph does not do a lot for me, it being too green. I like more colour in a picture.

I can see the appeal of the waterfall but I feel I need a bit more sunlight. Just my opinion you understand.

Thanks for your comments Audrey, much appreciated. Greens, yellows and browns are about par for the course in woodland stream scenes such as these though. I wonder what it would would be like as an Autumnal scene.

Thanks for your comments Martin. You make a good point about the border, and I agree. I've used this border a lot, probably too much, but a border can definately help with presentation, though I know a lot either don't like to use them or can't be bothered

Glad you liked the scene, maybe not to everyones taste, but I can spend ages in places like this

              Hi Stephen,
As you know I posted a couple of scenes like this myself a few days ago, I do have a liking of traditional country scenes and this one is perfect for me.
As others have said the colours are better in this version.
              Its a winner for me

                Re: Deepdale rework

I can hear the silence in this one Stephen. I like these secluded places with a canopy of trees and colours are as they should be. I think the great depth of field is so suitable here with everyting from front to back in good nik. I prefer this than seeing milk flowing with those long shutter speeds .

Many thanks for your comments and thoughts Mike and Tom. I think we are basically like minded on this type of photo

Thanks Jocelyn, unfortunately only one entry is allowed in the Salon

                        Re: Deepdale rework

Nice shot Stephen, wish I was sitting there right now (not actually in the water mind ) rather than sitting in a cold office writing a dull as dishwater project update for dull as dishwater corporate types in HO. No-one reads them because they're so dull but you have to do them and I'm a day late. "Why are you late" they asked - "to bring some excitement into your dull lives" I replied but they don't get it, the sense of humour in Bonn is different to Suffolk. They laugh like drains at Benny Hill though.....

I quite like the frame as well, don't normally use one myself but I have to admit that they sometimes have quite a positive impact on the image.

Hi Stuart, glad I was able to relieve the monotony and the picture took your mind away elsewhere for a short time

A great peaceful and calming image, it draws you in and makes you wish you were there, the cool woodland atmosphere and water reflections make for a wonderful image, it reminds me of when I lived on the edge of an 200 acre woodland in kent as a boy, the hours and days spent in those woodlands with friends were very happy ones.
