Re: Peggy's Cove - Lighthouse
I too like the first shot best. This is I think because you can see the whole structure. If I'm honest though I'd like to see the lighthouse more in the context of its position, perhaps in relation to Peggys Cove. You seem to have taken these shots quite close to the lighthouse, and yet I've seen other shots taken from further away which show it in relation to the sea and surrounding rocks.
I visited New England in '04 where there are some great classic lighthouses. One of my favourites was the Nubble Light on Cape York on the coast of Maine. Perhaps these two give you an idea of what I mean

Re: Peggy's Cove - Lighthouse
Thanks for the advise Stephen. It is hard to get a good picture of it with a background since there is nothing really behind me but a clif and water. Also, it's loaded with tourists...so it was tough to get a picture without a swarm of people around.
Here is one that show's more of the surounding.

That's definite improvement - the massive boulders add a lot of interest. My only possible criticism is that the central aspect of the lighthouse might be improved by off-setting it (rule of thirds), but this would probably need to be explored at the time of taking the picture.

Brilliant Cam, this is much better. I'd agree with Ian too regarding the central position of the lighthouse. But sometimes you have to do what seems best at the time.Originally posted by Cam View PostThanks for the advise Stephen. Hello Cam
I honestly feel that the huge foreground boulder now competes with the lighthouse and just takes over a bit too much. For that reason I still prefer the first shot you posted.

Re: Peggy's Cove - Lighthouse
Hi,
Very interesting, when I first opened the picture my browser cropped the right edge of the frame and I thought that this was better than the previous pictures. Seeing the comments from Ian and Stephen and looking at the thumbnail I realized that I was seeing a crop. Re-opening the image and expanding the window to see the full picture I could see Tom's point with the right boulder dominating the image and can see why he prefers the first picture. Cropping to about the middle of the right hand boulder seems to fix both of these issues.
I love the colours in the shots, the blue sky seems to make the red lantern really stand out.
Vernon.
