  • Morning deer

    Dear All,

Dragged myself out of bed yesterday morning to capture that "Golden hour" but was a little dissapointed to see so much mist.

However I did capture this moment of a deer leaping through the "yellow stuff" (no doubt someone will tell me the real name). Wanted more but this was pretty much the last time I saw it.

    Captured using a canon 5d, 70-200 F2.8 lens (which I love).

    Best regards

    Josh

Nice one Josh, like the letterbox crop, and of course the sight of the deer adds an almost amusing element to it, as its the last thing you would expect to see in a field of oil seed rape.

Was this the Canon or Sigma 70-200 you were using

        Re: Morning deer

I really like this one Josh, I like the loneliness of the single deer. I quite like the mistyness of the picture, I think it adds a little something. However, if you wanted to bring out more, I am sure a little tweak in Levels could do it. (I dont think I would though!)

The yellow isnt what most people think it is, some call this 'mustard' however, it is Oil Seed Rape. Its something that farmers plant as it 'fixes' Nitrogen in readiness for the planting of cereal.

          Hi Josh,
A great capture and I to like the crop, and I like the mixture of the mistyness and the vibrancy of the oil seed rape, I would leave it as it is, however I might be tempted to experiment and lift it a little just as a comparison.

            Re: Morning deer

thanks all for the comments. I have tried with the levels and it does bring out more but it was actually misty that morning and I didn't want to lose that effect.

It still amazes me that the camera (or now computer) can indeed lie.

            Best regards

              Josh,

I like the photo and the letterbox cropping.
I do like the deer how is popping half out of the field.
The mist adds a feeling of loneliness and mystery.
One question though about the mist.
How come it looks like it stops evenly as a straight line leaving part of the field intense yellow and untouched?
Or, are they two different fields with different yellow intensity?

                george,

I have no idea It could be because here is a slope at that part of the field.

                  Hi Josh,

Great picture. It almost makes Rape look OK. (I personally hate the stuff which has become more and more common plastering vast swaths of monotone yellow across the landscape, but I suppose farmers have to live.)

The mist, deer and crop make the picture.
