  • Upstream or Downstream chaps ?

One of my earliest photos taken with my first digital camera a Canon Powershot G2 about three years ago. Comments/criticism welcome on composition or quality etc.

Your earliest with a *digital* camera, Dennis, but not with *any* camera, surely?
How did you know to divide the frame into unequal triangle with the weir? And put that goose on the third so accurately?

You don't need much advise on composition, that's for sure.

Quality? It's a bit difficult at these resolutions, but I suppose some of the whites are blown out a little.
And you could have chased away the third goose in , but other than that, not a lot.
Have you tried this in monotone? or even a split tone? It's got very few colours in it anyway, so you might be able to do something that could lift it from very good to special.

      Hi,

Like the picture and the title. The suggestion I would have is to get down lower e.g. eye level with geese.

      best regards

Josh - The trouble with that is with these types of subjects 'One must seize the moment' or what you first observed as a possible picture might quickly change with these irrational birds.

Jim - As you say 'not my very' first. In fact number 9 in the 11 I have owned in over fifty years 'dabbling' in photography. !! So I do know some of the accepted 'rules' of composing a pleasing picture. I also do a bit of painting which also helps.

Delightful shot Dennis, it looks a little over-sharpened to me though, how much was applied?

Great shot though, love the composition.
