  • Autumn Dress

Winter is fast approaching & vines, shrubs & trees are starting to dress in their Autumn colours. Constructive comments welcome! Should I select background & apply a lens or guassian blur as DOF not that great?

Hi Jocelyn. As you say, the colours are beautiful. The main background problem for me, in the wire fence. I don't find what I see through the fence obtrusive. You could, as you say try adding some guassian blur to a selected background to see if it makes the fence less intrusive, otherwise, as your Autumn is just approaching, it might be worth having another go and trying not to include the fence.

I am sorry that I can't give you very much help on this one.

      Re: Autumn Dress

I hope you don't mind Jocelyn, but I decided to see what I could do. I cropped it slightly and then I cloned out the fence on the right hand side of the picture. It was quite easy (I left the left hand side for you. ).

I then adjusted the curves, but this accentuated the edges of the leaves unfortunately. (They were bright on the original). I also sharpened a little, perhaps too much.

Anyway, I think the cloning was the main thing and that was easy.

Aha yes Audrey, cloning out looks good! Unfortunately this ivy or vine grows on the fence, so can't not include it! I'll have a go at cloning out & adding a slight blur to greenery. I was thinking also of desaturating the green slightly somehow when doing the selection! Thanks for your input, it really helps to get constructive comments! I will be taking more pics as Autumn brings more colour & when I can get time to venture further than my own garden!

Yes Jocelyn it is a help, Andrew Thatcher has just given me a tip on my "Old man with cigar," photograph which I am having a go at.

Is there a chance that you could return to this location and maybe hang a piece of material behind the leaf cluster to obscure the fence. The leaves are stunning and a plain background would enhance them even more.

Yes I can readily go back to the location as it is in the street next to my house. The colours however change daily & the light of course may not be the same. I took the photo late afternoon with the sun not too far off setting, which brought out some lovely colours. I can & will try putting something, either material or card behind it to see what difference it could make.
