Experimenting is great and necessary. I often get results like this with macro and using the zoom too close.
This and the other pics in your gallery are not sharp. I think you have moved.
Just looking at the EXIF and I see you have a 5D. I know you should be getting better images than these.
There is no detail in the centre of the strawberry and the torpedos are also 'soft.'
I am ashamed to say I get confused when reading the exposure times. 0.800 s is under l second (I think) and if you did not use a tripod, perhaps you moved. If you did use a tripod then perhaps you were too near.
Anyway (from she who know noooothing!) I will hand over to all those that do and people with SLR's too.
Audrey, I'd be disappointed if I thought Josh hadn't got these shots in focus. Indeed I think they are, however they have no doubt lost some sharpness in the downsizing. Not only this but particularly with the lemon shots, the exposure is a tad under, and the texture of the lemon slice and the vibrancy of the colour does not come through. With these at least if you use the white picker tool in Levels on the background it improves the shot no end. They will all stand some serious sharpening too. I wonder if they needed a bit more front lighting Josh.
Thanks for the comments. Have been poorly today and knew it was a mistake to sort out my pictures. I have uploaded unsharpened files. Not even in camera sharpening.
Anyway. New versions going in now. I did use a tripod and a cable release.
have updated the galley and it automatically updated the linked file so the file Audrey commented on has gone. Sorry.
Stephen I have tweaked the lemon shots. you are right I took the pictures using a lastolite light tent and the sun was streaming through the back of the picture. I did try bouncing light back on the front of the lemon but the tent was dissapating the sunlight too much. At the end of the day I guess it shows the limitations of DIY and I do suffer from having no studio lights. One day I hope.
Well thats made me feel better Josh
I put the latest version into PS and felt the levels could still be tweaked and some sharpening added, just a bit mind.
I also discovered that the shot was in the Adobe 1998 colour space and not sRGB. Is that right Josh?
