  • Another Sunset

This was taken as an afterthought on my way home from the Kruger yesterday. Is it as good as I think it it is?

    Hi Guy

Yes, it is good. The lighting is delightful spreading from behind the trees. I am just not quite sure about the cloud which is pretty central.

I tried scrolling down and making it into a letterbox; it didn't quite work as I expected. May be it was because the top border was now missing - had the border been complete, it might have worked. BTW I prefer this border to the red one.

It is a very pleasing pic. However, if it were mine, I think I would be trying the cloud a little lower down and probably to the left a little. By doing this, you could then be certain that the original picture was the best after all.

Beautiful soothing colours and very tranquil.

Now I have been called Godlike in my day but the clouds I don't control, The clouds were incidental, My composition was based on the horizon, a little to the left and the sun would not have been as well placed, as well as to the right.

I do realise that Guy, I was just meaning I might try moving them in Photoshop just out of curiosity.

The sun and the horizon are perfect.

Then it wouldn't be as nature intended, a bit of a fraud maybe? I know the perfect shot is a myth we aspire to but having it the way it's supposed to be is more my thing.

              Re: Another Sunset

The short answer is ...... yes

Love the colours and atmosphere - we've had several seasons in one afternoon here (I was in eastern England today) - rain, hail and snow in short succession. At least it kept the visitors from Florida happy!

Sorry, drifted off subject! I can see what Audrey means about the cloud, but it doesn't look right when 'removed'.

It looks dead when the cloud is removed, very bland, The cloud for some reason gives it body even if it is in the wrong position ;>

Audrey, I have on occassion used Photoshop to manipulate but am never really happy with the results, I now prefer to use photoshop to "develop" Those natural flaws in nature and the fact theat the animals are hiding behind the twigs gives the shot a little interest in my opinion, When I get that perfect shot with no obstructions its great but when theres a twig covering an ear the shot just looks so much more wild to me. Does this make sense?

                    Re: Another Sunset

Yes it does. In a recent Challenge at our Photographic Society, there were some wonderful natural history pics.

Judges often talk about "Gardening" before taking a pic. If you don't know, it means tidying up the twigs and area around say flowers, fungi etc.

On this occasion, there was a wonderful picture of a grass snake, but it had a few bit of grass across it. As it was a "Knock out" the pic stayed in for quite a few rounds, but it was the fact that the blade of grass was across the snake that it was removed at that time.

Because it was a grass snake, I thought it was the most natural thing to have over it as it was in its natural habitat and I liked it!

So there you go ... ... "You can please some of the people some of the time ... ... "

Well If they want me to garden in front of Rhino's and Lions and such beasties, I think not. We had some shots of Hyena on Saturday under trees, I was not going to move twigs under any circumstances

Quite a magic sky that one. I like the golden rims to the clouds and being so dark at the bottom allows my mind to fill in. The colour of the photograph is great - and having read other comments now I actually like the cloud where it is - it adds to the sense of vastness of that sky.

Yeah, I tried cropping it out but that just kills the photo

A fantastic photograph in all areas, the cloud ballances the image IMO, a brilliant result from an afterthought.
