  • Frank Critique!

    Hi all,

Wondered if I could ask for some comments on these shots of Frank - our 8 month old kitten/cat.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gina

I tried to copy and paste into the attachments but it wasn't working but that could be my stupidity in understanding it!

    Re: Frank Critique!

    Hi Gina,

The first and the last are my favourites, especially the first. I like the golden eyes in a sea of black fur. The middle one doesn't work for me at all - the slightly startled expression on the cat isn't appealing and it's a little too light, contrasty.

Getting the exposiure right when tackling black cats is quite tough. The camera will want to over-expose, which looks like what happened in the middle shot, but I think you have done well with the other two.

        Hi Gina,

For me I like the first one, however, it would have been nice to include his bottom jaw.

I love the way it fills the screen. As Ian said, its a pain to take a decent photo of a black cat. I recently had to have Quincy, our black cat put down, and we only have a a couple of really pleasing shots of him. Loads of snaps, but only a coupleof decent pics, because he was so difficult to photograph!

Thanks for your comments everyone. You're right, it's not easy taking photos of black cats but I've been doing it since he was just 6 weeks old so now I know in advance how he's going to react. If the natural lighting from the windows is good, I have a sneaky trick and that is to feed him before setting up the tripod - then he couldn't care less what I'm doing.

My camera seems to have mood swings! Sometimes when I power up, no matter what I do, the images are blurred on every setting. Any advice would be appreciated. It's a Fujifilm S3500 Zoom and has taken around 5000+ shots.

p.s. Sorry to hear about Quincy coupekid. :0(

Have you checked to make sure the AF hasn't been changed to Manual Focus

              Hi Pops,

I've tried AF and manual settings but this seems to be when in low light. I just need a new DSLR!

              Thanks
