  • Across The Bridge

Another shot taken a while back with an Nikon F55 (so please excuse any grain, I don't think its too bad but if its not acceptable, I apologise), and this shot particularly stuck out for me as I was travelling around the nearby Attenborough Nature Reserve. I like the combination of nature in the background of this image, whilst the man-made structure almost seems to be holding it back, which seems to almost metaphorically represent an interesting view that man is pushing away nature. I'd love some honest critique on this, especially regarding the 'drifting space' to the right, which I feel adds to the image in some way, but i'd love to know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Matt Kneale

Matt, I find the bit on the right pulls my eyes away from following the path & a bit distracting imho!

      Re: Across The Bridge

      Hi Mat,
I find it hard to recognise your interpretation of this image, however do see some potential in this site, I would have been tempted to stay around for a while to see if some kind person were to appear in the distance or middle distance to add some interest to this very bland image, I like the way the bridge takes you into the landscape but to where and what, the disapearing path adds mystery but there is nothing to hold the interest, a person just walking away and about to go out of frame along the path would have been great.

        Hi Matt,

I disagree with your sentiment about the man made structure 'holding back' nature...to me its giving access to it....(which I think is nicer! )

I like the way the eye follows the path to the unknown wildlife area.

I also believe that this would have been a more pleasing shot had you been dead centre to the bridge.

I notice some other people also mentioned this, and that is it could have done with some background interest, maybe a person walking a dog going away from camera in the distance.

I am not sure whether I am speaking out of turn here either, as I may be being unfair as it was uploaded from an analogue camera, but to me it looks like there has been some camera shake in the taking of the picture?

        Cheers,
        Ben

          Re: Across The Bridge

          Hello Matt
The only thing that lets this down is the bridge. It's just a bit of an eyesore. The path is nice (and theres a nice amount of it visible) leading into the woods or whatever.
Change the bridge and the result would have been far better

            Matt,

What a wonderful shot! But I too believe it is missing something, Maybe a jogger running away with a headset on. other than that I really like the picture.
