A pretty good effort Stu, I'm also impressed with your desire to try ideas and develop your photographic skills

If you need more time to do the 'painting' during the exposure, you could double it up to 40 secs by increasing the aperture to f.22. I'm presuming you are using iso 100.

I think for a first attempt your result is very good.
I use torches for this type of photography for years now.
I never used cardboards or other related dark backgrounds to isolate objects. It is amazing what you can do with torches and a dark black room.
The more you experiment the more you will find out the potential of this type of photographic technique by discovering what other effects you can create. Also there are other effects you can create with light generally in places like pubs and bars where the light is dim and where they exist small spotlights. Keep on experimenting

Here is an example of a photo in a bar. You might have seen it before in my gallery. Anyway here is the "duotone" version of the original photo of the "Hover Glass".

I have been doing quite a lot of set up shots lately. Thanks for this new idea.
