My niece Louise. Not one of my pictures but taken last week by my sister using a 2.1 mega-pixel Olympus 2020 I gave her a few years back. I converted it to mono using DxO 4 and used neat image to get rid of the noise and then smart sharpen to put some back in To be honest, the original was ever so slightly blurred as well.

IMHO it shows that pixels ain't everything!

I definately agree, lovely shot, has a kind of 'romantic' soft focus about it, and I love the little catchlights in the eyes.

I think this is a stunning portrait, very natural and super skin tones, excellent shot.

I would like to see it croped though what do you think.?

Beautiful shot. I love both versions but especially like Patrick's crop. She's a stunner!

The C-2020 was an outstanding camera - it may lack pixels but the lens was excellent and you can just see how good the tonality is here. Olympus produced a number of really remarkable performers at around that time - (2000-2001) including the C-2500L, which was a favourite of mine and, of course the E-10/E-20, though the C-4040Z was utterly forgettable! But the three megapixel C-330Z I gave my mother in law still produces fantastic shots that will blow up to A3 effortlessly.

              Why was that then Ian?

If by "forgettable", you mean it was bad, my husband has one and I have a G3 and the Fuji 9600 but his 4040Z pics compare very well with both of mine and he gets better shots in low light, without the flash - it having a 1.8 lens.

The downside is that is it slow and takes smartmedia.

                Re: Lou

                Ooops, no offence meant!

I received a C-4040Z to test when they first came out, but the images were flat and lifeless compared to a Sony S85 that was a match for the time. I was so concerned, I asked Olympus for a second opinion and they sent me a second unit to try, but it was just the same.

I suppose I might have had a poor batch.

Well I think we all look for different things. Our very first digital was a C990 (D490) and I loved that camera and got some incredible shots from it.

It's a pity they get passed their sell by date so quickly.

I sold my C4040 to my brother-in-law when I jumped ship and went for a Panasonic. I often see photographs that he has taken with it and ask myself why the hell did you sell such a nice camera.
