  • Just A Daisy Re edit (gerbera)

    Hi all,
Here is a re-edit of the just a daisy shot posted before, based on critique and sugestions I have replaced the previous green background with this one.
I have tried to contrast the soft colors and curves of the daisy with the hard craggy lines of the granit background, I think it works better this time around, opinions please. WHOOPS!,
Helps if you post the image as well

    Tinka,

I like the flower and the color of it.
Though I have two comments to make:

    1. I think if you have used a different background, more smooth and with not so visible texture would have helped better, because I think this one distracts a little, not leaving the human eye to concentrate and observe mostly the flower.

    2. I don't know if it is possible, but if you had left a little more space on the bottom (the bottom flower petals almost touch the frame) would have also worked better and the difference between the space, the flower has from from the top and from the bottom of the frame would be more even.

Those are of course my comments according to my personal preference.

Sorry Tinka but that background is to busy. I found myself searching all of that texture for shapes. Perhaps if you still have the flower selection you could invert and blur some of that texture away.

It looks like a great background but a bit intense in this context. But I think the genaral result here is very good.

I agree with what has previously been said that background is too busy. I would give it a blur, less contrast or soft focus. It definitely detracts from soft hue & quality of gerbera!

            Hi all,
Thankyou for your input, it sure is a learning curve, George, I take your point and agree, I will go back as I still have the unflattened image and adjust as you say. also soften the background as well, I kept the background sharp so as to contast the sharpness against the softness of the flower but was unsure of the end result myself.
            Many thanks

I was passing a local florist a couple of days back and saw some gerbera in the window. I immediately thought of Tinka
Popped in and bought a few stems just to photograph (wouldn't tell my wife that though)
I positioned a piece of pink card behind this one which has natural window light on it's left (as you look) and a with a piece of foil held up for reflection on the opposite side.
Comments please so I can make another attempt before they wilt.

                Hi Pops,
I like your version, however I feel you have gone to far the other way and the background is to similar to the flower color, so the flower does not stand out enough, somewhere between my version and yours would appear to be right, what do others think? perhaps a darker pinkish softened blured version of my background ?
