Inspired by the work of David Nightingale www.chromasia.com this is one of the wrecks on the Wyre estuary at Fleetwood. Taken early morning and given my own touch

This style of boat shot is now a bit cliched but what makes this one a bit more interesting for me is the unusual destruction and decay of the boat leaving a very stark shape against the lightest part of the sky. It's nice also to see other healthy boats in the background.

Hi Tom, wondered if you felt this one was a little less cliched?

I really like it, cliched or not, its a smashing composition and has your eyes wandering all over the place. Not sure whether it was intentional, or my works monitor, but it looks very slightly over saturated?

Nice one. Beautiful sky too, complementing the overall colours and composition of the scene.

As Tom already said, it's nice to see a little more of the background setting for these wrecks. How many 'wrecks' would you estimate there are?

Thanks Pol, I hear what you and Tom are saying, and of the shots I took on Tuesday morning this is one of the few I would definately put into the landscape genre. Of the rest I'm not really sure what I would class them as, almost structures perhaps. At the time I felt I wanted to concentrate on the wrecks, but in their own environment. The sky was pretty flat to the eye and in retrospect this may not have been the best time of the day to photograph them. However in processing them, somehow the sky has become quite important to the whole overall feel of the images. Ben commented on the saturation, and I would say that part of the processing involves increasing contrast, often selectively, and the result of this is to increase saturation, its to a great extent the result I wanted. By then selectively reducing brightness often in a vignetting fashion, more detail is to be found in the sky, and adding a bit more colour tone using curves gives this result.

In answer to your question about the number of boats Pol, there is a cluster of 5 wrecks in this imediate locality, though you could see others further up and down stream

              Re: Wyre wrecks

As a matter of fact I'm fascinated and interested in that the colours seem to be a fairly true reflection of how it can be in that area - having seen quite a few from djn,jw and the other chap. Sometimes the colours of an area aren't what we'd imagined and expected them to be imho.

I have a few of the English Channel, looking over toward the white cliffs - and the range of very deep blues and turquoise might seem unnatural but they are, in fact, exactly what was seen and captured the time.

              Hope that all makes sense.

Indeed it is a different approach and I like it a lot. I would prefer if the two boats were not almost touching but you have used the left boat to cover the sun very well.
