  • End of Dreams

This photo has bothered me for a while. I have fiddled with the colour settings and contrast/ levels. This is the final result. What do you think.

I'm not nearly as competent as many others on this forum. BUT, to me there appears to be some excess sharpening, or at least the need to feather the sky-mountain line. The shot is so busy, you might play with cropping to simplify and focus more on you primary subject. Also, on my monitor the shot appears "dull", without enough saturation. I'm sure others like George and Steven can give some better input, Trevor.

      Trevor,

This photo, while it is an interesting view, personally to me gives the impression that it is too flat, or somewhat lifeless. I think the sky is also a bit grainy for my taste.
Given the cloudy sky and the hills, the photo needs light and a little more saturation to tone the effect of colors (intense hues) under cloudy weather.
I try to modify your shot in order to explain better what I suggest. I add partial light from middle-left to middle-right to tone up the light effect partially cut by clouds and hills and partially fallen in the little valley, add more contrast to the sky and lift the intensity of green hues.
I didn't use noise reduction not to ruin the details in the rest of the photo, even though I wanted to do that to clean the sky a little.

In my opinion it should look more or less like this:

I'm pretty much go along with the principle of what you say here George. Though in reality you need the full image to apply your thinking I feel.

Indeed I need the full image Stephen, because this one was degrading considerably when I was trying to post process it. Maybe it is downsized from too many Megapixels and with heavy compression and most visible degradation was on the part of the sky.
I couldn't do what exactly I wanted it to, mostly in terms of image quality.

I'd go for a more contrasty, black and white look to add a bit if bleakness to the scene. The image is full of potential.
