  • Misty Morning

I like misty shots as they always go down well in competitions if they are decent.

Took this when on the way to Lyme Park to photograpph Deer.

It's near Buxton looking towards Earl Sterndale if anyone knows where that is.

Mick I believe that is close to Grindon Moor which we will be going to next weekend. We have only been to that area once before and did stop off in Buxton. Your picture reminds me of what it was like then. You may know about the Air crash that happened there, when the RAF tried to drop food parcels to the Villagers in Butterton due to being cut of by snow. Sadly all crew members lost there lives. We are going to a memorial service on the Moor where it happened.

Well it's maybe 12 miles from Grindon Moor. I however, am about 2 minutes from Grindon Moor. I have a very similar shot taken from Grin Moor looking over the Manifold Valley.

There is also a well photographed tree just off the road where you turn for Butterton and my favourite sunset shot I have is the very tree one winters morning.

I have heard of the aircrash but don't know just where it was.

The sad thing for us is that my wife's farther was the navigator. Her Mum and Dad had only been married 9 weeks. There is a Service held on the Moor each year to remember them. Also very strange that we now live on the very air field where her Mum and Dad met.

That really is very sad. I remember you once mentioning the place you live was once an airfield.

I hadn't known anything about the incident so I looked it up. It's good that such memorial services are taking place - it must surely mean a lot to their families.

Here's a link that may be of interest.

Sorry Mick, I've kinda hijacked your thread. Can you please post some more pictures of the area. As you can imagine we are keen to see all we can but time is limited.

I don't have any general views of the area and indeed only have a few shots that I took for competitions.

I have been googling to try and find the exact location of the crash but can't find it.

Mick I hope this works. I have pin pointed the spot as close as possible on this map. http://streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...=newsearch.srf
There will also be a fly past by a Hercules at 12-30.

                    Re: Misty Morning

It's a lovely photograph Mick. The clouds/mountains in the background look like sea waves coming in.. There is a very nice healthy freshness and atmosphere to it.
Can a slight bit of colour be put back into it or was that how it actually looked?
Either way it is really nice.

Very nice, the way the hills weave into eachother does it for me, I would definatley play with the colours and contrast on this one.
                      cheers

Sorry I'm a bit late replying, but, I know the spot and it is only up the road from my house.

Can't say as I've seen the memorial though. Can you see it off the road?

I think I'll have a look for it anyway.

I have 2 pic's taken very close to the spot you marked. One is a tree just up the road and the other is 100 yards farther on looking over the Manifold Valley from Grindon Moor. They are both scanned slides I took a few years ago.

Hope the colours are ok as I'm having a bit of fun with my Spyder profile.

Hi Mick, Thanks for posting the pictures. You can not see the memorial from the road, but there is a small foot path type notice maked RAF memorial that points across the field to the memorial. A service will be held in Grindon Church on Sunday and the locals, we are told, will be walking up to the site. My map may not be 100% accurate but I'm sure it's within half a mile. We had problems finding it till we asked a local and they pin pointed it for us. Hope you find it.
