My first attempt at architecture

My first attempt at architecture, taken yesterday afternoon; Hamilton Mausoleum built between 1840 - 1856 by the 10th Duke of Hamilton.

As I was shooting from a low level, I had to use the lens distortion feature in CS2 as the building appeared to be leaning backwards; how does it appear to you all?

The above photo had a lot of cloning done to it using layer masking (I may just be getting a foot on the first rung of the ladder of CS2)

Hi Brian, these sort of shots are difficult to get spot on, with so many verticals and horizontals to get right. You seem to have made a brave attempt though, but the second shot suffers from that bright sky to the left. I'd have been tempted to underexpose much more then attempt to lift any areas you felt needed it in CS. If you don't want converging vericals them low angles are usually a nono However as you have said CS can come to the rescue. For me though in straightening out the first shot I feel the cupola (is that the name of the dome) has become rather bulbous, and its still not quite vertical. I'll have a go with it myself and see what I can do

Hi Brian,
I like the color and lighting in the first shot, Architecture is not my forte but there does appear to be some disrtortion but for a first attempt it is looks pretty good to me, I can't give any tips to get it right as I would'nt know how to get it perfect myself, Stephens edit is an improvement, but even in that the verticles look OK but the steps seem to be sloping to the left, that could be because they do or an optical illusion, what I can say is that I usually allow plenty of space around my building shots so as to be able to correct problems in image progs, if you look at Stephens edit a bit of space has been lost at the bottom, due to correcting the verticles etc:

Hi Stephen,

The HM does tilt to the one side due to mining over hundreds of year, Hamilton especially in the area of the HM and the old palace is like a rabbit warren underneath. If you look at the front and rear photos, the tilt is in the same direction front = right and rear = left.

Also, the path leading up to the HM in the first photo is actually off centre to the doors.

This is true, though I did crop a bit extra off the bottom to balance it up a bit. It is a good idea though to leave space at the top, I often forget

The 2nd shot does appear to be leaning a bit and the left side of the sky is very offputting.
When I tried to straighten it I lost the top of the dome so that was a nono
