  • Some mono candids from Versailles

In addition to photographing splended ceilings at the Palace of Versailles last week, I managed a bit of candid photography. Here are some mono interpretations (converted using PS CS2), both taken with the pre production Panasonic Lumix TZ3:

wow, i absolutely love the tones in these Ian. excellent conversions. you'll have to PM me your process

i like the expression of the gentleman.
assuming he was capitivated by the aesthetics that surrounded him.

Absolutely fantastic Ian - passed Versailles on the way back from Strasbourg in November, but it was shut when we arrived (and pouring with rain) and covered in scaffolding at the back and sides, they'd been digging up the cobbles at the front and it was flaming cold!

These are just snapshots - nothing special. The first 'caught' a passing tourist, the second is of my partner, Bob

Hi Carol, yes there is still a lot of building work going on and the hall of mirrors is undergoing some serious restoration work. The seem to be building a new stone wall at the visitor entrance.

Hehe - I just used the Photoshop CS2 convert to grayscale action, though I did fiddle with the channels to get my preferred tonality.

I can't let go of that second image. I must have caught a bug or something.
I keep imagining all sorts of scenario's as to why she is sitting there.
I'm not going to ask if she posed for you, the answer could well spoil my enjoyment of this photo.
Strange but i don't get anything from the gent in the first shot.

No posing - these are honest candids

She was one of the staff that makes sure you don't touch things you aren't supposed to or go past the barriers, etc. I think she was bored and was just blankly looking out the window, to be honest.

                Ian,

I like both of them. The 2nd slightly better because of the window view, but I don't know how possible was to zoom more and avoid to have so much dark space on the left. The 1st one would be also perfect if you were slightly on the left and you could take all of the old man from the right side.

Though, given that these are Candid Shots (the victim is not aware of the snipper ), they are very good

The first shot is better than the second although I feel some more detail could be extracted from both pics, I love the black & white, with these type of shots its the only way.
                  cheers
