I've been fooling around with an iPhone app from FotoRus that adds sort of an HDR effect to photos. The results usually don't work well but once in a while an interesting effect is produced. I'm curious what your thoughts are. The first shot is of the spiral staircase in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM.

I had seen some similar work by a Swiss photographer. She had applied the effect to shots taken where she lives near Lucerne. I really liked the results.
Here's a before and after comparison. I was having lunch at an outdoor restaurant in Vermont on Sunday and took this shot with my iPhone 5. It took less that 30 seconds to create the effect. It's certainly a dramatic change but is it too intense?

Back to experimenting with the HDR effect. This is Creek Street in Ketchikan, Alaska. The first shot is unretouched. Following is the HDR treatment and different gradations. Your thoughts?
Two versions of Alyeska, AK
And Icy Strait Point. The effect is only slight on it.
