Great shot he does look confused, but it won't be long before he's setting the DVD (HD-DVD/Blue ray or whatever it is by then)recorder, for you, or sorting out your PC problems.

Terrific image; great expression, nice close crop (suits the context here) and well-focused with a strong depth of field. It's really very good

I don't like the treatment at all. The shot would probably work well in mono, however this almost-but-not-quite-desaturated look seems odd and it keeps pulling me away from the image itself. Is there some kind of bronzing going on here too? I keep getting a hint of a metallic "feel", but I can't be sure.

        Ash,

The shot is very nice, with detail and good toning.
My only objection is that all of his hands and the object he is holding should have been included in the photo. Though I don't know if that was possible especially with the kids that move and grab with the speed of light

Eyup Tim, I did try to get a very slight sepia tone to the image but I dont think I spent enough time on it, the background on the left is slightly distracting, I value all your comments and maybe with a little more tinkering we can get a decent print.
          cheers
          Ash.

It's a belter, Ash and top marks for Thomas too 'cos he's a real cracker too.

I see what's been said about the processing and agree it looks a tad 'metallic' - but that doesn't bother me too much. It's the sort of picci I'd probably look at hundreds of times then process many different ways and reprint many times over the years.

Afraid I must pick you up on this one George, I missed it earlier. I'm assuming your statement is just your opinion and not something written in 'tablets of stone'

Since I don't feel like picked up, explain me what exactly the expression "tablets of stones" mean in English, because I'm not familiar with all possible English expressions in order to give you a complete answer.

Sorry, English colloquial expressions I suppose
To pick someone up in this context, means to ask for correction and clarification.
Whilst written in tablets of stone refers to something that is definate, cannot be altered, a rigid rule in this context. I suppose it derives from the Ten Commandments in the Bible, which were Rules written in tablets of stone

It just means that it is a rule that shouldnt ever be broken.

In the (very) old days, before paper etc, any messages/writing etc, had to be chipped into blocks of stone, hence the expression. One could never change what was written.

The way in which you wrote:

all of his hands and the object he is holding should have been included in the photo

Using the word 'should' implies what you are saying is a rule, as opposed to an opinion.

                      Hope that helps!

Smashing shot Ash! and nice to see your still hovering around

I reckon I would go totally mono on this one, then a nice large print to go on the wall!

                        Great stuff.....keep em coming!

OK, thanks Stephen and Coupekid for the clarification.
                          So here it goes:

Nothing is a rule of thumb and nothing is definite.
If it was, it wouldn't be photography...it would be mathematics!
My statement meant (according to my non native English) that the photo would look better if the entire part of the hands and the object that the kid is holding were included in the frame. Not that the photo cannot stand as it is. Anything can stand or be called a photo, even a flat picture of a wall. A photo is whatever a camera can record strictly term speaking.

Further, to complement the exclusion of these in the shot, I mentioned that kids are hard to photograph since their movements are fast and most of the times the shots don't turn out completely as desired.
Of course what I'm saying is personal opinion. Obviously I cannot possibly represent other peoples opinions, first because they might differ and secondly is a wise thing to do leading most of the times to mistakes.

Also since this photo was posted on the "Photo Critique" section, all comments of all possible thoughts from all individuals are welcomed and are normal to be expected and nobody can be accused for having a different opinion.
Though that difference between opinions is what making photography and photographers better at least in my opinion as usual.

                          Regards
