  • Perspective

My 67 year old knees have undergone five surgeries as a result of sky diving and ski racing mishaps so they protest mightily when I try to squat down. Reading a putt is an ordeal. I wanted to try some low perspective shots so last Sunday I sat down beside a volleyball game and grabbed this shot with my wife's Lumix Point-and-shoot. There is a bit of distortion at the margins.

I then balanced on a fence post and took this high angle shot. Both shots were taken at our ski club's annual Lobster Roast.

If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

    Re: Perspective

I especially like the shot of the volleyball game, it's superb imho.
Any distortion isn't too obvious and it adds to the dynamism of the shot anyway.

The second shot is fun but it's the volleyball shot that 'excites' me.

I can empathise with the squatting problem, same here. Two arms injured here too, Ulnar nerve on the left and wrist on the right.

      Re: Perspective

I've found getting down low to the ground can provide really exciting images that are totally different to normal shots. I like to get down when taking photos of my kids and the dogs, it gives a great perspective and if the sky is good it makes them even better.

Trying to lose weight so I can have my second knee operation - a replacement this time - so I feel your pain! The angle on the first shot is excellent

          Re: Perspective

been a bit absent for a while, so jumping back in again....

love the low vantage point of the first image - my default position is down on 1 knee with sports - and the timely capture of the action.
see how you think a vertical crop works. you may find it emphasises the action.

the lobster one i'm not so keen on. it might've been worth using a wide open aperture (if at all possible with the lumix) to try to isolate the lobster from the background and the people. because the people aren't really doing anything, they aren't *that* important to have in focus. not saying it's wrong as without capturing both styles it's difficult to know!

Just tried the vertical crop and also a pano.

Think I like the vertical best.
