  • More critiques sought

I was rummaging through some of my older albums and stumbled across this shot. From the thumbnail view I couldn't figure out what it was and then I recalled taking shots of a circus act a few years ago. It makes for an unusual shot.

I really enjoy shooting abstract shots. The next two were taken last Sunday under a large pier at Folly Beach in South Carolina. I'd love to hear constructive criticism and suggestions.

    I don't do critique - worth a bump though.

I like the first one - most unusual.

      Hi Pat
Not a critic just my view.
Very unusual picture the first one. I like it.
The second and third picture are well overexposed and have glare because of it. That can be corrected.
In the second one I might suggest that you can explore cropping it for a symmetrical composition to improve the visual impact.
      Regards Horacio.

Interesting structures with repeating patterns creating great depth. I like No 1 best, but think that the other two might convert well into B&W.

Yes, the circus one is unusual. I often take images like this and wonder what I will do with them after.

We went to the Isle of Wight a couple of years ago and I also took some images from exactly the same position as you did. I'll see if I can find them. I like yours and mine! With regard to critique, I think Horatio has hit the nail on the head. Because they come out a bit on the dark side (well, mine did,) one has to be careful how much light to introduce and if overdone, the whole image can suffer. Must have another look at mine.

It's me again Pat, I hope you don't mind me joining in.

I am going to post 2 of my pier pics. The first one I haven't adjusted and the horizons a bit sloping, but I have adjusted the second one but I think it is too light. Like you, I would appreciate a critique.

Hi Audrey, the second one is very well improved. I will probably darken it a little (unless my screen is to bright), and if possible, I would like to selectively darken the sky and the water, mainly on the left side of the picture Sorry to put you into work again It is just for fun..Regards, Horacio

I like those, Audrey. Thanks for sharing them.

Reminded me of one I took in Eastport, Maine a couple of years ago.

I did reply as soon as you posted Horatio, but I must have forgotten to post it! Anyhow, it was my birthday yesterday and the 3 of our 4 'children' visted throughout the day and we were out last night. This morning I am on a different computer and have had to start again and not made a very good job of it. I do know you are right but I am not so smart at selectively adjusting within Lightroom and ATM don't have Photoshop.

We are laying vinyl flooring in the Utility Room today and my skills are needed for measuring and cutting whilst my husband is on his knees, so I don't think I shall have time. May be tomorrow. Anyway thanks for your valuable input. BTW the first photo was not the same as the second one, but I'm sure you knew that.

Thanks for posting another one Pat. I like this type of image and have quite a few that I took at the same time of the ones I posted. They of of bits of barnacles and seaweed. May be if I get time in the week, I will have a go at posting them.
