  • Ol' Rock n Roller

It seems that one will never find out one's mistakes or misconceptions about our individual photographic styles or skills for that matter unless we put some up for critique & that way generate feedback & comments! So I would like to display 2 recent pics I've downloaded to my gallery & ask for constructive critique! One pic of course is a mixture of hopefully artistic effects & therefore not pure photography as it were & possibly not appreciated by the purists out there! This however is my style of blending 'artistic licence' with photography at times!

I like what you have done to the wagon wheel image. My only comment on this is that the wheel looks a bit over exposed. Reducing the brightness may restore the detail in the wheel. The other image is I believe an attempt to add DOF to the image. At first sight I found this very effective but on closer inspection there are a few points that do not look right. The pipe running down the side of the engine is sharp but is beyond the point were other parts are out of focus. If this was real DOF then the pipe would also be out of focus. A nice shot all the same and worth the effort.

        Hi Jocelyn,
I like your images, The wagon wheel could do with a touch more saturation, The roller image is my favorit, A graphic unusual view, showing the wear and tear of many years hard work the detail is really good. I do not like the result you have achieved used the blur tool to blur the corners and very edges of the image,"trying to concentrate the viewers attention to the centre"? it is too obvious. the image certainly has potential, Is this a crop of a larger image? perhaps a re-visit is in order.

I like the wagon wheel, the treatment adds to the allure of the image, It feels olde west. The roller however does nothing for me at all.

Thanks for your comments. Machinery is not normally my cup of tea either, but it's interesting to try different things & experiment beyond the comfort zone at times.
