    Hi everyone,

I have had to photograph a group of subjects for a portfolio. As well as a "link" between the photos the portfolio had to be set out as the I wanted them displayed. This is the result. The photos were taken over a couple of days in a rocky river bed that was covered with californian poppies and other wild flowers.
As usual - in this sort of thing one is torn between self doubt and pride in ones work.
I would appreciate comments about choice of subject and layout. The prints are numbered from the left 1 - 10.

    Thanks
    Trev

G'day to you mate! Do you have to display 10 pics? Do you have any other of the same subject that you haven't displayed here that would show better than 3, 5 & 10. That is just my opinion that perhaps you have more close ups that would benifit the display more. Perhaps you have included these for balance to the display, which sometimes can detract rather than compliment the display. That is of course my own individual opinion & doesn't mean to say I don't appreciate your work in any way!

Hi Trevor, as it is shown abovem there is more space below the pictures than above, so it is unbalanced from that point of view, but teh selection of pictures and the way they are spaced out is fine by me and very attractive. Will these be printed out? It would be a glorious display, I feel .

Nice one. I'm a big fan of showng photo's in series.
Possibly consider having one of the photos a fair bit larger than the others?

          Hi Trev,
I personally could not fault the display nor the images, it appears superior to anything I can produce at present, It will make a superb display, imho . I like the way some of the blooms are backlit, really effective.

Trev I love the pictures, you have obviusly decided these are the best so there is no point in suggesting anything different. Its difficult to imagine how this will look as a full size print, the small thumbnails here do not do them justice. My personal inclination would be to put a 1 pixel white stroke/keyline round each image. Also I think they are a little squashed in at the sides. I think the protocol is that the top and side matte is in the ratio 1:1.5 with the bottom.

              Re: Portfolio

What a fantastic selection Trev. The colours are just wonderful and look good on a black background. I agree with Stephen about the white stroke around the images.

We were always told when mounting paintings or photographs to make the bottom of the mount larger than the top - something to do with the way we view the picture. I didn't know about the ratio that Stephen mentions, but I'm sure it will be right - particularly as that is what you have done.

I recently did a couple of panels for our Photographic Socy - my first but some of the other entrants for our competition were outstanding. I had four in my panel and one of the images I made quite large with the other 3 the same size and the judge commented favourably on that arrangement. DTD suggested this.

Good luck with the panel. Is it for a competition?

                Hi all,
Thank you for your comments - very constructive as usual. I will do the white stroke and change the ratios to suit the display. Yes they are for a competition. Will let you know how I get on ?
