  • Reflections in the Tyne

Took this today and liked the reflections I got in the water. A beautiful crisp January day, even the trees looked jolly. Any comments as to how it could be improved?

I don't really think that your photo needs any further improvement. I personally find that it has the right dose of everything. Maybe the sky can slightly be post processed a tad darker and bluish to match more harmonically with the reflection of the sky in the water.
I also saw the version with the cottage in the galleries awhile ago which is also interesting, nice and peaceful shot.

      Hi Blythe,
Really well exposed shot. I would crop a fair bit of the reflection off to emphasis the trees on the bank. I would also get rid of that bit of twig down the bottom if it survived the crop. By the way I have also seen your cottage and trees shot in the galleries and think that it is a cracker.

For me, it's quite beautiful the way it is. The only possible improvement would be a very careful cloning job to get rid of the foreground branch that rises diagonally from the centre foreground, but it may be equally effective to just lower the brightness level of it so that it doesn't stand out the way it does.

          Hi Blithe,
A beautiful image, and I like the frameing, I like it the way it is but have to agree that the twig/branch sticking up in the forground centre needs to be cloned out, but it is such a good image it is only a minor prob, that aside, overall the image needs nothing doing to it, That said in my opinion you have two images in one here, if you were to crop the bottom third off the image you would have another version of the same scene, what a bonus! great photography.

Thank you all for your comments. I think I was so taken with the relections in the deep blue water that I entirely overlooked that bit of twig sticking up in the foreground. I tried to reduce its impact by going over it with the dodge tool - I'm never quite sure what I should use. In the end I decided to clone it out. Tried deepening the sky too but could not make it look natural.

Trevor, yes I can see how it makes a pleasing photograph with the lower quarter cropped off but then I do not like the boxy shape and it takes away that lovely intense blue in the deeper water.

I do appreciate all your comments - it is nice to try to see things through the eyes of others.
