  • The Path to Peace?

Taken at the Monastery of Paleokrastritsa in Corfu. Does the partial picture upper right distract - should it be cloned out? Does the oof foliage on the left distract - should I crop it out?
Any other comments or critique please.

Taken on a very wet and dull stormy day with not much light. E-M5 plus Leica 14-150mm

The oof foliage doesn't distract me in the slightest.

The partial picture doesn't especially bother me either as the frame, content and colours blend in with the overall image.

However I can appreciate how the viewer's eye might be drawn more readily under the arch and along the pathway if the picture were cloned out - carefully cloned out to maintain the continuity of the colours and textures of the white wall.

If I were my own picci I'd probably leave the picture on the wall as it adds something about the general scene and atmosphere of the place, adds to the 'story'.

For me the oof foilage is a part of the photo. It is obviously being trained to follow the archway. While the picture may be out of sorts with everything else I feel that to clone it out would leave an inbalance to the top of the photo and be even more of a distraction.

      In short leave it be

In response to several comments on E-System User Forum I did a bit of cropping to produce this:

Do you think it works as well? Or maybe not.

        Thanks

Yes I think the crops works well.

TBH both versions work for me. The original has more a feeling of space that tempts you to approach and the crop takes you deeper into it.

Having contemplated both for a while - I think maybe I'd settle for the cropped version (if I absolutely must choose one or the other).

Live dangerously - have prints from both.

I have been scrolling the cropped version up and down for ages and have finally come to the conclusion that if a crop is going to be used then the bottom edge of the picture frame ought to be cropped off completely.
The crop here has already enroached into the top of the arch so another inch or so won't make any difference.

Of course you could go back and retake the shot after taking down that picture

I prefer the first as it has a good balance.

Pops has the right idea - go take it again - another jolly makes sense.
