Still trying different settings while getting used to the 7D when this Wren turned up.Was on high and managed to get it down to limit noise levels.
    7D...400 5.6...F 6.3...1/640...iso 320 and -0.3 ex comp.
This is the 1st I have processed after finding out how to get access to the DPP...might be a better one in the file somewhere...lol

      Re: Wren

Nice one Keith. Interesting that you used 1/640 which is my standard speed on shutter priority with the identical setup. I use 1/1000 for BIF though. I note that you used -0.3 compensation which seems strange as it is against a bright sky, I would have used a positive figure as the AE would have given an under-exposed image - did you use AE? I have now set my three most popular settings to C1, 2 and 3 - that gets me through most days. Good luck with getting used to a completely different (although logical) menu setup.

        Thanks both....

DAVID....I have yet to try the C1-3 modes...but can see the attraction as with this shot I had the minus ex comp ready for the main quarry of the day...the Kingfisher and THAT white patch which would really need a -10...lol

This one was on Aperture priority...still trying to get to grips with everything and I think I used most of all the different permutations.....had auto iso - iso at 320 and even tried higher.
The sun was in and out and as you know birds can pop up anywhere and not always in the light and most times in the blinding light.
I did have a go at TV (new term for me)but with auto iso and things looked really bad at 1600....eek.
I had read the manual on line many times even before choosing the 7D and had noted the AE feature but as with all things I got confused....do you press once and then recompose or have to keep doingt it

        It will all be a l o n g ongoing adventure....

I see nothing wrong with this Keith. They are so quick and tiny to capture at the best of times. Nice catchlight in the eye.
