  • Wolverhamton early morning

Went to Wolverhampton early this morning to catch the rising light.
Got what I feel are some moody shots, love to hear what you think.

They're certainly all 'moody' and there are two that especially grab me because of the mood they convey.

Those are the second shot - streetlight on the empty footpath. What I like about it is that it conveys a cold, wet morning with early morning sun creating stark contrasts in lighting and shadows, with the of the promise of warmth coming to burn off that cold dampness.

There seems to be a slight, dark halo effect either side of the lamp past just as it rises above the wall. Not sure what that is, maybe a slight shading left behind after post processing a layer? Although that doesn't spoil the picture for me I thought I'd mention it.

The other picci that especially grabs me is the last one. What I like about that one is the industrial feel to it, dark, damp and misty - the sort of setting I imagine for a Cooper and Fry crime scene from a Stephen Booth crime novel. Shadowy and somewhat sinister at certain times of the day but bright and normal in full sunlight. Very atmospheric imho.

A great set from an early morning walkabout.
Like the first one for the tall building rising above the mist in dominance of the two smaller blocks. The sky here shows the same effect with an almost perfect gradient.
Also like the sepia tone of the third along with the attractive, and yet practicable way, the railings protect the tree's. Never seen that before.

Nice, especially for someone who likes reading crime novels, as I do.

I can imagine that print must be superb! I can also imagine this picci on a book cover. The character of Diane Fry was from the Black Country, worked there as a detective until she was attacked. The description of the location where she was attacked, and left for dead, conjured up an image exactly like this latest picci (beside a fence with the shadow of her attacker looming into view).

Altogether a very evocative series of pics.

Not sepia toned that was the colour, the sunlight through the mist gave the warm glow.
Showed me the value of making an effort and getting up Sunday morning

You will have to forgive me. Long time since I have seen the dawn light in reality.

It had been a very long time since I have seen it as well

Am loving that wall in the second picture, the light is almost perfect. So much to look at. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful light, lovely set - for me, the second shot really stands out although I also like the final one for it's misty, moody quality.
