  • Stephen and Tim

This is a rework of the one i did on the visit to Blackpool the other week. Any thoughts on this one. Is it better, worse than the one i posted first off. Cheers.

I can't find the original image. This one has atmosphere, but I think the figures in the foreground are over-sharpened, causing the white lines around their margins.

Both have developed a glowing halo which is the first thing I saw.

OK for anyone who can't find the original picture, its HERE.
The Album has been moved to a new DPNow Meets category in the Galleries.

The 'glowing halo' referred to I think is not the result of oversharpening in this instance but the brightness of the sun. We were walking pretty much into the sunlight, if you check out the shadow it was maybe at 2 o'clock to us.

I think Andrew has done a fantastic job on this rework. Contrast and brightness has been controlled and the tones are better too. I'm guessing this is the result of adjusting the Raw conversion to get detail in the sky and then lifting any shadow area after conversion.

Now I see this version and compare it with the earlier one its100% better for me. Who did you say those two fellas were?

          It's a lot better.

I especially like the 'backdrop effect' and the impression they're walking towards it .... in a sort of Morecambe and Wise Bring me Sunshine' hoppity-skippity-tappity-leapity style.

I said it before, I'll say it again - this picture is a belter imo. It creases me up every time I look at it.

Thanks Stephen. This one is indeed much improved. But while the 'glowing halo' on the right (sunny side) of the figures is mostly sunlight I still suspect the white edges on the left side of oversharpening.... but forgiveable, it's job well done.

Yes Andrew, it certainly has more atmosphere than the first one.

I still have the same questions I had before, so now I am going to ask them.

The picture looks very natural, as though they don't know they are being 'snapped,' but, assuming they knew you were going to take the picture:

1 Were they told to walk with that distance between them to show the road?

2 Is Stephen left handed or were they each told to hold their cameras so that the lenses showed like a mirror image? (I am right handed and always carry my bag on my right shoulder)

It looks really good. Well done. You all looked to have had a fantastic day out, despite the rain.

Haha, well in the absence of Andrew, this was not a setup Andrew 'SAW' the scene and this is the mark of a good street photographer.

I'm right handed, but in this situation it seemed better to use my left shoulder for the camera, when you walk next to the staggering hulk that is Tim, you have to look after your expensive kit

Finally a question for you What difference does it make ?

It doesn't make any difference. You have answered my question - you were looking after your gear. Because the large lenses were sticking out on either side, it looked as though it was a set up, but if it had been a set up, I would have thought you might have closed the gap between the two of you, but as you didn't, the road showed through and that also looked as though it was meant to happen.

                    Very good Andrew.

                      Hi Andrew,

After seeing both photos I came to the conclusion that I like the reworked version (much more visible detail in the far distant horizon and sky) but with the greenish cast of the first version.
As far as the "halo" mentioned somewhere, I'm still trying to see where it is.
I only see atmosphere haze due to sunlight angle and these two guys with their bazooka weapons

                      Regards

                      George

Hi, To my eyes it is a great silhuette Street/Candid image, "Heading for the pub no doubt"? medicinal purporses only of course.
