  • Street Prayers

In the week before Eid, the devout come out to pray on friday, and will take over any open space for their prayers. These are the friday prayers under a metro rail under construction!

A great picture thanks to the high position of the camera. The Ferrari shirt near the bottom right really stands out

The darkness at the top adds something too - As a viewer I'm not sure how far back the rows go which adds atmosphere. An interesting shot

al_koholic - the darkness was intentionally added on as a grad to suggest that. this lot was actually under an under construction span of a metro railroad bridge for exactly half an hour.. I did not want to include that construction site info because it would have got somebody into serious trouble!

Ian - am glad you noticed the Ferrari tshirt.. there is also a guy with an NY Yankees cap on! However, for me, what really made the image was that chair!

            A rather unique photograph.
Is that a motorcycle helmet just behind the chair ?

I do like this, even better looking again.

Would you mind me asking what city this is in? I have a vested interest in railways and their construction!

I hadn't paid much attention to the clothing as I was fixated on the orderedness of the rows of people

                  Re: Street Prayers

This is in Gurgaon, India. Gurgaon is a suburb of New Delhi, and is a fast growing metropolis. There is a strange duality which exists here, where the past and the future co-exist in a complex contradictory way. As part of these growth plans - a connector metro train track is being constructed. While it does not show in this image (I will try and locate an image which shows the construction), these people are right under a concrete span under construction. Since it is Friday today, I am hopeful, that they will come again, even though Eid is over.

Here is another image which shows the concrete span above the gathering

Very interesting - I'd like to see some more shots. India is a huge market for fixed link infrastructure and the rate at which these things are going up is staggering

Here is one which shows the contradiction more clearly. Pardon the low res iphone image.

Fantastic image. Great color pattern and the Ferrari shirt is a little exclamation point on the image.
