  • Little Blue (Cupido minimus)

This tiny butterfly, about 2/3 the size of the common blue, is quite common in the chalk quarry. Although this species is widespread across southern England it is established in local populations.

The reason for this localisation is that the sole food plant of the larvae is Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria)

This plant is in abundance in this area.

    Hope you like these.
    Kind regards

Love the delicate colour and the photographs are superb with the added bonus of capturing both sides of the wings

Very nice studies Peter, especially the first.

Dull skies here today - so no little wings. Captured a small heath yesterday in slightly brighter conditions.

          Hi Barrie

Thanks for your reply. It's not been too good hear today but had too many other jobs to do (without a good reason to escape),
          Kind regards
