  • Model portrait from Focus on Imaging

I would welcome feedback on these two:

    No vignette added

Post crop vignette in LR3 added.

Which is better - with the vignette or without?

Olympus OM-D E-M5, m.Zuiko 45mm (90mm equivalent) f/1.8 @f/4, ISO 1600, 1/30th second, hand held, mono conversion from camera JPEG. Only chroma noise has been filtered - no luminance noise reduction. I have dealt with some minor facial blemishes - it was right at the end of the day in quite dim artificial lighting (hence ISO 1600) and this was one of the models from the Olympus stand at Focus on Imaging yesterday as she was waiting to go home

I commented on one of the other forums that the vignette is so subtle that it is hardly noticable, apart from slightly reducing the OOF highlights in top and bottom right corners, but what I didn't mention was how impressive this is for ISO1600 with an Olympus.

Here is the colour version also requested:

I think this might be better than the mono. All I did was switch from mono to colour in LR - the colour view before I adjusted the mono version (in mono) wasn't as good as this

I prefer the colour version, but then I'm more of a colour photographer myself.

I prefer the monochrome, but I'd crop the distracting, light OOF "blobs" on the RHS.

I'd certianly try a different mono conversion, to emulate a filter in the red to yellow range that seems to work on this skin tone.

Either way you are certianly making great use of that 45mm and I honestly think it's making your portrait photography better.

Just printed both the mono and colour versions of these on A4 - modesty aside, they are superb prints and you would never have known these were ISO 1600s. The model is Rhian and I think she will be pleased with these when I give them to her later today
