  • Macro with an OUFRO

I don't have a macro lens any more, I sold it in my big clearout. However I recently bought an OUFRO on ebay and it combines well with my summicron on Panasonic G1 for near macro work

What do you mean - you don't know what an OUFRO is?? Call yourself a photographer!

It's an obscure bit of Leica gear, a very short extension tube, little more than back to back 'M' mounts, made for use with the 'Visoflex'. Leica used to give their bits and pieces a five letter product code and as some are nearly pronounceable like the close focussing accessories NOOKY the names have stuck.

Whatever it is, it's worked a treat in this case. That's a lovely rendition of a snowdrop and very pleasing bokeh.

Hadn't got a clue what a OUFRO was but it does seem to work ok.
      Lovely soft background

I think it's an extension tube?

and there i was, thinking an OUFRO was a hairstyle.

as for the image, it looks a little soft to me. the focus appears to be on the end of the petal on the right. i think a smaller aperture would've helped here as the DoF is very tight.

i'm a big fan of extension tubes for macro as they let me use my 'L' glass without spending megabucks.

I'm inclined to agree about the focus and I don't think the lens has quite the sharpness of a good dedicated macro lens anyway.

I don't like extension tubes myself because they give such separate focussing ranges but they are a cheap and cheerful way of using a standard lens.

I'm looking out for an OM fitting 50mm f3.5 or a similar lens in Canon FD fitting as dedicated lens. Can't justify the Panasonic macro and it doesn't seem to get the best of reviews.
