  • Rock on fire

This is a view at Fire Valley State Park, Nevada, taken in March 2009 in late afternoon with the sun low. I was in the shadow of the hill behind, but the ridge in the view is beautifully lit up by the setting sun. It's actually the result of using Merge to HDR in Photoshop CS5 combining five bracketed frames and avoiding the more garish HDR effects.

Stunning effects and super sharp. Ridges and projections are clearly visible on the mountain.

Beautiful image, with great lighting and well processed.

If I could wish for two thing it would be for the jet trails to not be there which is outside your control Ian, and the leading line of the highway to lead more to the centre of the image, perhaps moving to the other side of the highway?
      Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

When I saw the shot yesterday, I did ask myself why I hadn't stood in the middle of the road (I recall that you might see one car every few minutes and you could hear them coming a mile off) as I think that would have been better. Instead, the verge dominates the centre of the foreground - so I do tend to agree with you!
