Re: Beauty and the beast
I'm not usually too keen on macros of insects showing their red buggy eyes but I love this picci! Beautiful colours and a fabulous smooth bokeh.
If I was to be picky I might say the pink flower in the background could be slightly distracting to some viewers - but TBH I'm not of the 'clone this out' brigade - so I like it just as it is speaking for myself. I'd be thrilled if the picci were mine.
Did you set it up indoors (eg in a vase) or was it shot outside in a garden?

I agree that sometimes out of focus areas can introduce distractions to a greater or lesser degree.
For me in the case of this image it tends to be the 'just' out of focus foreground flower/bud on the left....
The shot was taken outside on our patio area in pretty good natural light so f/13, 1/200 was possible at ISO1000.

Thanks EddieOriginally posted by Fast Eddie View PostNice composition and detail.
Certainly a not a beautiful insect is it.
This is was quite a heavy crop so got the composition pretty much as I wanted, the ugly fly was quite obliging so I managed to get a couple off that were in focus with the desired DOF

Re: Beauty and the beast
For me the blurred out background flower indicates a natural shot and not an indoor setup with a lure for the fly. I don't think I have ever seen a fly captured in this standing pose before, it looks fantastic.-------------------------

Re: Beauty and the beast
Although an ugly little hairy beast with gurt big googly eyes, the shot is great! Sharp detail of the fly automatically draws one's attention to the subject & slight blur on the foreground flower to the left as mentioned does not detract viewers attention. Thanks for sharing.Jocelyn
