The Sun - playing with a new toy

took delivery of a specialised telescope today - a coronado personal solar telescope (PST). the following images were shot after mounting the scope to a driven mount.

the first photo shows some solar prominences - millions of tons of material being ejected 10's of 1000's of km into space.....



the 2nd shows an active sunspot

the same prominences as in the first shot, just from a few hours later. image has been cropped and rotated by about 45 deg. certainly interesting to see how the proms have changed.
