  • Stalking Rudolf?

    hehe!
    Couldnt resist. Comments very welcome.

One comment is the aspect ratio of this, I wanted the blurred out grass in the foreground to give an element of sneeking up on the deer....hence the portrait, I would especially like comments on this point.

    Thanks in advance.

Very nice Ben - but surely not taken in the last few days here?! Unless you snuck away somewhere nice for Christmas

Looks like you photoshopped the DOF. Some how the foreground looks unnatural, or have I had one over the eight.

          I know that feeling.....must.....stop.....eating.............c hocolates!

Not sure why you think the foreground looks unnatural though, just a slight tweak with the levels, and a very slight sharpen, thats the lot on post processing, this is pretty much out of the camera, not even cropped.

I purposely got very low down to grass level and shot through it to get this effect.

Cheers for the comments though, doesnt matter how it was produced, its the end result that counts, and if it looks fake to some people then its nice to hear.

I'm not disputing what you have said Ben but the DOP just seems to be very defined between in and out of focus. What lens was you using?

              Using a 75-300mm telephoto lense

It's very nice Ben wharever. I feel the grass in the foreground is a little too blurry but it's not a problem.
It is a real pity though that the face of the deer behind is totally blocked by our friend out front thus also making the collection of antlers a bit confusing. Easier said than done though.
But I imagine you had to work hard for position to get what you have here which is very handsome.

Thanks Tom, I had to jump over a couple of fences, and kneel down in some very muddy conditions to get it! hahaha, I gues I will have to revisit, and see what I can come up with, took quite a few shots that day, so will look through the others.

                  Cheers,

                    Hi Coupekid,
A nice image, however I would have blurred the grass to the left and also the rear dear and it's antlers to make the front one stand out even more, I like your thinking and approach as well as the results.
