Re: Prehistoric Skeleton
I like firstly the composition. The curved bones behind the skull at the upper right corner --- is it the neck? Well, a funny question I know but it looks like a sort of trajectory of the skull as if it jumped out from that point.Originally posted by ash View Post
Having said that, I also have to say the bones architecture does not seem to be a neck.
rather something like horse mane.
Personally I would prefer more DOF. I would like the whole skull in more focus. Maybe you wanted to focus on the sharp teeth.
I also like the slightly red light on the lower jaw.

Re: Prehistoric Skeleton
Hi yoshi thanks for your post, this was an incredibly dark place, by focussing on the teeth and not the eye as we are taught (mainly because the eye was not there its a skeleton) as you said gives the impression of the creature jumping out 3d effect.
And this is a human re-creation of a skeleton in an aquarium.
A tripod and a slightly deeper dof would have brought the eye area into focus and might have made for a better shot.
Shooting at f1.4 @ 90th sec ensured I got at least a shot of some sort with a 50mm lens, and shooting at narrow depths significantly increases the 3d effect.
So actually this picture you could say was a fluke as I would not want to shoot it with anymore dof as I feel it has drama and effect the way it is.
Or maybe I just made something out of a very poor lighting situation
