  • Another bridge

Well xmas is over and the weathers dull to say the least , so i thought i'd just go back and process a shot i've been meaning to do all year .
I was going to enter this in the Salon contest , but was beaten to it with this bridge .
Taken back in April this shot of the millenium bridge over the Thames was taken early on a Sunday morning .
I've increased the saturation a touch and cloned out 3 red cranes from the horizon.

The dark triangle in the foreground provides the impact here for me and leads the eye accross the bridge very well.
I feel the people in the distance are not an asset in this case but I'm sure this all opens up wonderfully well on the full size version.

I've not seen this perspective before - though I have seen several like this one of Danny Chau's:

The sky's blue hue in your picture doesn't look very natural too me, though?

Thanks for the comments , i did the conversion on my laptop which is uncalibrated , it looked fine , now i'm back home i can see your point about the sky colour .
While i was cloning out the cranes i thought about the people as well , but i left them in because i thought they would add a sense of scale
Dannys shot reminded me of a similar one i took on the same day , same perspective but not as many people about .
I've already PM 'ed Danny about the closeness of our two shots

Hi Bigbob, I like the picture and have a similar one also taken on a Sunday morning, before the crowds arrived.

I often find that instead of adding saturation to the sky, I simply make a well feathered selection and use Curves to darken the sky a bit. I find for me this gives a more pleasing result.

Hi BB, hope you had a great holiday,
A great image, I like the way the elements of the image take you into and across the bridge, The sky does look a little contrived, but that does not spoil the image to much for me, I have been to busy with the family to get on the net so have a lot of browsing to do to catch up with all the posts.

              Thanks Tinka .
Stephen i did exactly the same as you do to the sky , but then it still looked a bit flat so i upped the saturation a touch (proberbly too much ).
This bridge has so many possabilities that it's hard to know where to start , but you must get there before it's filled up with commutors

Yes I would agree with you. However it has to be said that I prefer the Hungerford pedestrian bridge further up river. Much more spectacular for photography IMO

That brings back memories, I broke my elbow on the hungerford bridge about 6 years ago, took a tumble off my Razr Scoot
