  • Amaryllis Macro

I shot this using the sigma 18-50 2.8 ex lens.
Not specifically a macro lens the close focussing is awsome, with this in mind if you need a fast mid range zoom that is great for landscapes & portraits with excellent macro capability, I can't really fault this lens for the money.

I would've thought there would have been more detail when using a special lens! The detail seems to be lost in the darker areas of stamens. A pic taken some time ago with Panasonic E5900 (no special lens) seems to pic up more detail.

I must have missed this when originally posted. I think you are being a little unfair Jocelyn about Ash's photo. With respect yours cannot be compared. Ash has purposely taken a shot with very limited depth of field with the point of focus intentionally on the stamen. He has IMHO successfully attempted to be creative, not only with the focus, but also the composition the colour and use of light. In fairness, with the camera you were using you would probably have struggled to achieve such an image. It really is about more than than just picking up more detail, even though your shot is nice enough.

Hi Ash, nice picture. How did you light it?

          Re: Amaryllis Macro

Thanks for comments, Joc its not a special lens more of an all rounder which I thought Ide made clear, yours is a nice picture also but for me looks more of a snapshot, and flash

It was taken in the conservatory where there was lots of light using tripod, 1/15 sec at f11 iso 100 on d7000, the front lens element was about an inch or so away from the centre of the flower which is why there is very narrow depth of field.

Thank you for taking time to explain Ash! I apologize! However I did not mean to compare my pic in that sense...only about detail...which since both you & Stephen have pointed out was not the point of your photo! I do agree that your pic with narrow depth of field is very creative & of course in a different league!
