    Re: New Grandaughter

Congratulations Grand Pops. Nice picture and I guess only one of many. She will keep you busy now for months and years even. Best tip I can offer is lay off the flash if you can. Babies have very thin skin and the flash will penetrate and show up the little veins. This is similar to red eye. Gives the baby a reddish face. If you have to use flash bounce it off the ceiling or defuse it well with Rizla papers. Enjoy the moment they soon grow up.

You have a pretty good effort to begin with there Pops. Good advice from Ron too. For me though I'd get rid of the dummy straight off

Haha! I occurred to me that not everyone here would recognise the reference to 'dummy'

In many other parts of the world a dummy is known as a baby's 'pacifier'

Also a good idea not to use flash in the eyes of newborns; their pupils cannot react as quickly as they will later on. Just use natural light or good artificial lighting for the first few months. (Aside from that, the little one can quickly develop an aversion to being photographed at all, and you definitely don't want that to happen!)

If this little one is anything like our grandson (just over 1 year old) there will be no problems with pictures, our grandson Tom`s face lights up whenever the camera comes out and he is becomming a right little poser. I have seen such changes in just the short time he has been with us. The wife really doesn`t need any excuses to take his picture either!!

Thanks LesleyO....The flash thing was drilled into me by others as well. They visited again Christmas eve and I made sure to use a flash bounced off the ceiling.
