      Re: Sabie River Bridge

Guy, I suspect this scene is one of those that was better when you were there and has not translated as well to the viewer as it did to your eye at the time (hope that makes sense)

I would personally love to have been there, I bet there are all sorts of wildlife around that river. You seem to have taken it from a high viewpoint were you on another bridge?

There are a few points that tend to grate with me, and I'll leave the sepia/colour choice to you, its personal taste usually. Firstly the choice of a letterbox crop, I seem to want know what is in the foreground that you have cropped, you have effectively cropped off the lead in to the scene, the eye goes straight to the bridge, does this seem fair, you may think otherwise.

Secondly, your trademark frame and sig is grating onmy eye, its too in yer face, too big and dominating the picture, I'm looking at the title etc more than the image. A more subtle framing is needed IMO, but lets get back to the picture

Its a pity the sky was so bland and washed out, but thats a little out of your control, unless there was detail but it is blown due to the exposure.

Then there is the bridge itself. The tilted appearance of it just doesn't sit right memy eye. I realise the image is possibly level, and the tilted effect could be due to perspective, its difficult for me to say. I'm thinking of what the solution may be, from a picture taking point of view, and it seems you either should be square on to the bridge, or make it a more acute angle, in which case the perspective thing would appear more natural. Tis a difficult one Oh, and if its a rail bridge, how cool would it be to have had a train just coming over it

Anyway, please come back on the points I make, it would be interesting to hear how you stand on them

        Re: Sabie River Bridge

This bridge is smack bang in the centre of the Kruger National Park. It was this perspective or none unfortunately, This is not a crop, Its a panoramic shot, I have a few other shots including the foreground that translated even worse, I may post a few of them later. The trademark is admittedly a little in your face but I have found some of my pics being used sans permission on other sites. As I suspect these fools of being semi illiterate. I have taken to either adding watermarks or huge unsightly frames. In thios case the frame seemed the lesser of two evils. I hate f****** up my pictures but I hate finding them without attribution even more. Thanks google images.

The sky in Africa tends to be either very bland or overpowering, This shot was taken at midday which is not great from the light perspective. I will go back sometime and get better light.

Sepia and colour, I did both options. I thought personally that the sepia added a historical edge to the pic, As to the train, I think I am about 40 yeras too late, I would love to get one with an old steamer crossing. I will also try and find a better perspective but then I will be forced to stay in the car as there are Lions and Leopards roaming the area. I think becoming lunch far outweighs the need for a good shot.

Guy, personally I much prefer the alternative one you have put on your gallery. The name etc is more subtle too
