It's a pleasant enouugh picture, but from the title I assume you are saying that the fishing boat is safely home. The fact is my eyes are immediately drawn to the big concrete building on the right and the jetty on the left which dwarve the little fishing boat.

For me, on this occasion, the fishing boat is too small and not sufficiently in focus to be the main player in this photograph.

Just my opinion you understand

Hi Brian, I see the value in the picture that you see, but the composition can be improved. If the picture was cropped a fair bit, I feel we could have a better overall result.

I agree with what the others have said Brian regarding the crop.

Just as a bit of hindsight, next time, I personally would have moved to the right, zoomed in on the boat slightly more and had myself a nice head on shot including just a little of the side walls on either side.

The concrete structure on the right is a distration, and my gadget eyes keep being drawn towards towards the solar powered light on the left!

Well .................. I love this picture and I wouldn't crop anything off it. It's just right exactly as it is imho - lovely shot of the boat coming home, calm and tranquil with only the gentle chug of the engine, a seagull swooping in to inspect the wash behind the boat.

Lovely detail of the wash too, gently breaking the calm waters sweeping across to lead from one side to the other (jetty/pier to the rocks on the opposite side.

Wonderful, complete reflections in front of the boat,also from the rocks and wall/pier on the right. Reflections that show the calm, slight ripples in the water, leading to the wash coming from the boat.

It all comes together beautifully and, if it were mine, I'd have a poster print to hang on my wall.

This is a picture that has to be viewed at full screen, all of it in full view without scrolling, otherwise I feel one misses the full impact. Cropping anything, would crop off essential components of the entire scene.

In short - it's a cracker, an absolute belter just as it is imo.

I can see where you are coming from, Pol and I'm fortunate to have a good sized screen here. But the detail on the left hand side is not attractive at all to me and it's not that great on the right, either.

To be honest, the swooping gull is completely in the wrong place and I considered cropping it out too, but in the end this is my compromise:

As a rank amateur I like the gull but also feel that it detracts from the main focus, I do't know but suspect I would have focussed closer to the bow.
