  • A Calvaire In Bretagne

Not a popular subject but Christmas is coming. It may not be a white one, but here's a bit of b & w for a critique.

There is a dark halo along the back of the post and the highlights are a bit toasted. It's a personal thing but I'm not sure about the framing that chops the top off. For me a picture like this needs to rich in fine detail, which is why I noticed the slightly bleached highlights.

Thanks Ian, you are quite right , I hadn't even noticed the halo and don't know where it came from. Can't do anything about the framing, it was a restricting site.

I must do more b & w! Try this one.

the white line running down the torso bothers me, maybe clone it out. remember your eye always seeks out the area of greatest contrast.

I like this, shame about the crop at the top.

An unusual angle that works well had it been given more space to breathe at the top! That would've lent to it's air of dominance over the scape as a Christ figure or icon I imagine would!

Thanks for commenting Jocelyn, but as I said earlier I was constrained by the space available and was already at my widest lens setting - 18mm.
