  • Simple Macro

When I first purchased my Sigma 150 DG Macro I spent some time getting used to it. My pevious macro experience was with a 70-300mm lens and a Sigma achromatic converter screwed into the telephoto lens. The new lens has proven to be superb.

One of the first images I took is the one below. At the time I was experimenting with dof and focal distance. I am particularly pleased with this image.

I would appreciate CC on this image.
    Kind regards

    This is a toughie.
I appreciate the detail on the closed portions of petals and the dof is fantastic.
The pic on a whole though doesn't really do anything for me.

      Thanks for your comments Pops
I guess for me it was the contrast of textures and colours and composition that gave me its appeal. I certainly respect and welcome your feedback though

        Re: Simple Macro

I actually do like your image and now your lens becomes clearer to me.
I actually had this lens for macro work and found the focal length just too long for close up stuff, a longer focal length gives you such a narrow dof for close up work it was almost unusable. Excellent lens for portraits though, but for portraits its just overkill, I found I could get better results with my 50mm without the arm ache
The prime use of this lens is for stuff that you dont or cant get close to.
        Ash.

Hi ash, thanks for your comments here. Photography is a subjective thing, what pleases one person does not please another. That's something I accept and respect. I am pleased that you do like the image though
I have not yet purchased a set of extension tubes but, when I do, the strength of this lens over shorter focal length macros will make itself felt.
I get pretty good dof with this lens by remembering that aperture and focal distance are complimentary. The further away the greater the dof and the smaller the aperture, the greater the dof. I shall post some macro shots later and I think you will agree the dof is acceptable.
I have developed a technique for macro that works well for me. If you are interested, I shall provide the details later.
          Kind regards
