  • Inmaculada Paniagua

OK, I know that everyone is almost certainly bored to death with my flamenco singer pictures but please indulge me a little longer. Inmaculada Paniagua (bread and water !) is a young professional flamenco singer who headlined our village fiesta this year. Her performance was last night (or early this morning !). This is one of my efforts, that has been deliberately under-exposed for effect. Comments please.

It seems to me that if you increased the exposure much more you would be in danger of blowing the highlights. I think you have done a pretty fair job then and I quite like the overall effect you have achieved. Had it been my picture I may have had a go at selectively lightening some areas in Lightroom, but it's just personal choice

I enjoy seeing pictures that have been produced in such difficult lighting as I often learn from them. While the exposure is to your choosing, I think the camera has chosen to focus on the palm of her hand, as I'm seeing more detail there and on the bodice of the dress than I am in the face.

This really was tricky lighting as the ear has just lost some detail due to exposure while other areas are black.

This for me would be one that I'd have to try again and again, as I like the style of shot and the exposure, but I'd really want the face to be sharper.

This really is a difficult image, both in the taking and in the reviewing. I have looked at this image several times because it has that certain impact to me. It took quite a time to understand what captured my interest.
Technically, others have commented but I shall concentrate on the appeal to me. The lightness reducing dramatically through the image gives depth. I do not consider the sharpness to be too much of an issue as the softness in the face is very much in keeping. I would expect this treatment in this sort of image. Too sharp and this would look harsh.
All in all, yes, I like the image despite the technical faults.
        Kind regards

It's well known (I hope) that I don't do critique.

It's interesting in seeing how others have viewed this image and has helped my learning curve.

I like what I see Bear, as I do with most of your performance shots.

I'm certainly not qualified to critique a shot like this but...
I do know that I like it

I love this picture, however it could be better, my thoughts are, the face should be sharper and a little more exposure and punch to the image. At that shutterspeed it should be sharper, so I guess its a spot focussing error on the hand when it should be on the face. The very bright bit on the clevedge is a bit distracting also.
              My kind of picture.
