My first post here and not entirely sure if I have done everything correctly! The trawler was shot at Burghead on the Moray coast.

    Hi Broadsword.
You did it right, first time. I didn't. Had to have mine re sized.

A superb shot, as per usuall. Very well detailed.
I think i read somewhere else that you were using Cokin filters!
    Which ones? ND ? Gradient?

By jove, it takes a bit of work to get a pic uploaded in here! Am I right in saying pictures have to be uploaded into your gallery first and then onto the forum, or can you upload directly into the forum pages after resizing? Still a bit bewildered by it all!
Thanks for your comment BTW and yes my dear wife treated me to some Cokin filters. It's a starter pack with the holder, ring and some coloured grads, soft grey grad ND 8, warm ups, tobacco etc. Early days yet so still experimenting!

Re uploading directly to the forum!
I dont know. I'm afraid. But either Pol or Stephen will answer that for you.
Still havent got my head completely around it all yet!

The Cokin set sounds great, and a smashing treat from your wife.
Must show this thread to my wife! Lol

          Re: To sea no more

It's also possible to show photos as an attachment but they show on the page as a clickable thumbnail, rather than the full size image in the body of the post. Personally I prefer the large version, and I also think its nice to create your own gallery of shots. You can create as many Albums as you like and initially you have 25mb of free space, though this can be increased if you need it.

I like your photo too the first thing that struck me was that it had a lovely warm tone to it and was different to many shots which have a grey or burnt out sky. If I was to be critical, I think I would have preferred more space to the right of the boat.

            Re: To sea no more

Many thanks for the advice Stephen. DP Now is a bit more complex than most others I post in so I am still feeling my way around. Thanks for your comments on the pic and I agree with your point about the composition. Just out of shot to the right is a huge steel fence which would have been a nightmare to clone out. I could have moved right a wee bitty, but I wanted to show the texture in the keel and to get as large an area as possible, I opted for a tight crop on the rh side.

That sky is a super colour, good details too. Very realistic 'coastal' sky.

Do you have a graduated Tobacco filter in your Cokin set?

I'd been thinking about getting a tobacco. I have a pair of sunglasses with tobacco toned lenses - just cheaapies. But I've noticed how they can really enhance the colours at certain times of day - eg just as the sun is going down.

I prefer to post directly to the gallery, it shows the thumbnail in the post and when clicked shows the larger image. If you post three, four or more its a bit like a mini slide show.

                Lovely image by the way.

A great photo, which as you say shows the texture of the peeling paint etc extremely well! Have you tried adding a soft vignette? The effect changes the entire atmosphere to one of foreboding storm with those clouds!

Hi Jocelyn. Thanks for commenting and I like your idea of the soft vignette which I never would have thought of. Time to experiment!

My first impression is that it looks a bit boring tonally, its not moody enough, a high contrast toned b&w touch would surely fix this together with a lik of paint and Captain Jack Sparrow at the wheel it would be ready for the high sea's

                            Re: To sea no more

Good morning. Firstly, welcome to the forum and I am sorry that I did not view your post until now

I like the setting which drives the mood in this image. The lighting IMHO gets the mood just right. The fishing boat has been brought up from the shore on the trailor and is propped on the land for a much needed repaint/repair. The old layers of pealing paint provide lots of interest on the hull. This has been portrayed well in your image.
I see a picture of hope from a rather 'forlorn' state.
Changes I would recommend - none. Thanks for sharing
                            Kind regards

                            Peter
