Took this at home a while ago with a small umbrella, one flashgun and a 50mm lens. I took about 120 shots and thought this one stood out a bit above the others.

It's a shot of my Grandaughter that I've turned to Sepia, although the colour don't really look like the print I have.

I don't like portrait photography that much but do take loads of my Grandaughter, until she gets fed-up of course and starts pulling faces at the camera.

I'd like to know what anyone thinks of it because I quite like it, but then I would I suppose.

One to be proud of! The pinkish tone may be a personal thing - I think it works OK, but I'd guess some won't like it. The tonality of the picture is great and the sharpness of her eyes is a triumph - well done!

        Thank's Ian.

The colours don't look right I must admit, but it is hard to get them look right sometimes for the net.

The print I have is darker and more, well, Sepia I hope.

          Hi Mick,

I like the photo very much indeed. It has the proper exposure and detail. The sepia toning is nice too. Maybe it is slight reddish for sepia if I'm not mistaken, but that is something that can be adjusted easy.
My only observation/suggestion would be, to adjust somehow the strength of the flash or the distance, because the top part of your grand daughter's head where most of the flash beam hit, is slightly overexposed (blown out).
Other than that I really like the photo.

          Regards

          George

            Not quite overexposed but close.

There is detail in the original and I made sure of that but when you resize it can 'blow out' as you say.

Actually on my screen it looks ok and not blown.

I see nothing wrong with the exposure, full detail on my profiled screen.

                Re: Portrait

I don't see any blowout at all. The colour on the top of the head look the same as the hair hanging by the shoulders and I really like the general tone.
I would be over the moon to get eyes and skin tones like that. Great expression there as well. Your very lucky to have such a pretty, and obliging, subject.

Thank's Pops, I did soften the skin a bit as it looked a little bit harsh with using a very, very sharp lens.

                    Re: Portrait

Mick I must agree with most of what the others have said. For perfection, to which it is very close, I would have liked the head turned slightly more towards the camera. That would have placed the eyes just a little more to her left. Also a reflector to fill in just a touch on the right side of her face. All in all a very nice picture of a beautiful girl.

I was talking for overexposed for the specific part of the picture, not the entire photo. The part on the gilr's forehead just before the hair start. The part that the flash beam hit most.
In my monitor the photo looks OK too, just that little part has a slight intense flash lighting.

You're quite right George, the forehead is the most brightest part but I did make sure nothing was blown.

I did also want as much contrast as possible without blowing out again.

I also know that when resizing whites blow very easily so it may well look like that on other monitors. I normally run the history brush on anything that may blow after resizing but must admit I did'nt on this one.
