I think this is one of the best Zoom in shots I have ever seen. I don't normally like this sort of thing, but this is just great. Very well done. How many attempts did it take to get it right.

I wondered about the zooming action - it's very smooth, so I kind of discounted optical zooming

Yeah c'mon - explain how it's done please then I may just be tempted to go through the hassle of putting up a Christmas tree and scrambling into the loft to find the lights.

thank you for your kind comment Ron. since i'm somewhat familar with the technique, it was a one shot attempt.

for all, it was a zoom during exposure shot. i used a tripod, 1 sec exposure with flash and zoomed immediately after flash fire. this works very extremely well for outdoor cityscapes even without the flash.

Pol, i'd love to see your results.

            thank you everyone.

I've wasted no end of film trying to achieve results like that. Never tried it with digital. Have you ever tried the Flash while panning type shot. That also gives some interesting results. We used to call it second curtain flash. Not sure what the term is now. Flash fires just as the shutter starts to close. Think I will have to have a go now you have stirred my memory.
