    Hello Everybody
Due to involvement and experimenting with other things it's a while since I posted an image on DPNow.
This one is from a recent outing in Suffolk. I have given it some treatments in LR in an effort to make it a little eerie and mystical. Obviously it was pretty gloomy and without any decent light.

I think the atmosphere and mood this image gives off is essential to it's success as I feel it may not be very interesting without either.. I rarely play much with images but I have with this one.
I like the scene very much but I'm not sure whether this salvage job is working.
    Does it work for you.
    Hope to hear from you.

OOps I have forgotton how to post full image without it showing as a thumbnail. Please remind me.

Nice to see you back Tom!

The visual quality of your image looks poor in the attachment, possibly because it's over-compressed?

If you are hosting the image in your own webspace, then you can use the yellow insert image button. Better still, upload your image to your space in the DPNow gallery and use the BBCode link code and paste it in your forum message here.

      Re: Laneway

I'm afraid I'm guilty of not commenting on your photo Tom, something I try to do whenever possible. I have however looked at it several times, but I'm struggling to come up with something to say about it. Its not that I dislike the image, but I'm wanting to say something more constructive than the obvious comment about it lacking in detail. This of course could have been an intentional thing and the result of something you did in Lightroom.

The composition however is good, the path with the shrubbery give a tunnel effect which carries the eye admirably through the image

        Thanks Ian
On my monitor it looks dark, grimey, unsharp, with a somewhat foreboding/funereal mood.. not your perfect visual. If that is what you are seeing then hopefully you are seeing it as I intended.

Thanks very much Stephen for your honest words.
You came in just as I was typing my reply to Ian
To be honest this image has not worked well for other people, whose judgement I respect. Their main criticism is the obvious lack of sharpness and the need for a human presence. I unsucessfully defended my corner by saying that, in this case, the image does not need to be sharp and that a human presence would detract from the feel I wanted from the image. I sort of feel that it will not receive critical approval anywhere but I'm sticking with it; an ongoing work in progress

Ps I am fairly hardened to forums at this stage but I wonder if a newbie was making a first post which gets 130 views over a week and no words he might well be put off and possibly move elsewhere. Just a thought.

I'd have to agree with you Tom. It is unfortunate that there are only a few regulars on this forum that feel they have the confidence to offer critique, or indeed any sort of constructive comment. Without wishing to upset or offend some members, it is simply too easy to log on everyday, be 'entertained' for a short time and make no contribution. For my own part, I generally try to welcome new members and offer encouraging critique if it is requested. It is difficult to comment on every post made however and I see this as a shared responsibility in order to maintain the DPNow community

Really like this Tom, it has a spooky feel, not all images have to be sharp and I can understand why its not everyone's cup of tea!
I love giving critique and my honest opinion even if it upsets the person that thinks its a wonderful shot, I feel in the long run my comments will help them try harder and take better pictures.
Hope you have some more shots to share.
              Ash.

Tom - I don't find that sharpness is a necessity in all images, it depends on what you are trying to convey. I like the image and agree with Stephen about the composition. The tunnel effect is what works for me as it fraws me towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, that's all it is really, a tunnell formed by the trees. It was the mood of the piece that I was hoping viewers would pick up on also.

                        Bear.
It was around Flatford Mill from where I walked along the river (Stour?) to the village of Debenham. The tunnell is just outside Debenham if I remember correctly. Constable country.

Flatford Mill is just outside the village of East Bergholt where I lived for 10 years. I kow the area extremely well. You probably mean that you walked to Dedham though, just across the border in Essex ! Debenham is about 30 miles away to the north. I would be imressed if you walked it ! The river is the Stour.

                              Hi

I have just one comment but I think it is an important one. I can really see what you are trying to do with the picture but I think a lower perspective would help lead the viewer into the scene. What do you think?

                              Best regards
