As you will have read by now I did consider cropping from the bottom. As promised here is a quick landscape format of the area but with changing conditions(not necessarily for critique)
Compare this one to the first one I prefer the first one. In this one you totally cropped the bottom off. Leave some foreground land visible in bottom but not too much like in the initial shot.
Because the main theme is the river through the valley, the portrait mode works better for me. In a different situation, or with a different main theme, maybe the landscape version would be more appropriate.
